The Kibu Compass

Nothing about us, without us.

The Kibu Compass is how we listen. Two advisory panels, one of self-advocates with IDD and one of Direct Support Professionals, meet with us throughout the year and shape what we build and how we advocate for individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.

Common Questions

  • The Kibu Compass has two panels. One panel is for adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities. The other panel is for Direct Support Professionals. You do not need any special credentials to apply. If you live this work, you are who we are looking for.

  • Being on a panel involves reviewing the materials we send ahead of each meeting, sharing honest feedback on what we are building, and helping us decide what to add, fix, or change. Members are paid a stipend for every meeting they attend.

  • Each panel meets four times a year, once per quarter, over a one year term. Members are expected to attend at least three of the four meetings. Materials are sent out in advance so meetings stay short and focused.

  • Meetings are held on video. Every panel session happens online so members can join from anywhere in the country. A support person is welcome to join if that helps you participate.

  • The Kibu Compass exists because the people who use Kibu should help shape Kibu. We built this program around a principle the disability community has championed for decades: nothing about us, without us. Your voice changes the product, and that is the whole point.
