Funded Through Ohio's DODD Waivers
The Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) covers Assistive Technology as its own waiver service across the Individual Options, Level One, and SELF waivers: the equipment, devices, and software that help a person maintain or improve their independence, functional skills, and involvement in the community. It's meant to be reached for before more staff-heavy supports.
Kibu qualifies as Assistive Technology.
A Service and Support Administrator can authorize Assistive Technology when it ties to an assessed need and an outcome in the person's Individual Service Plan.
Kibu fits that definition. Its classes and tools help people manage daily routines, build communication, and take part in their community, which promotes autonomy and lessens reliance on paid staff. Ohio's rule counts subscriptions and recurring monthly fees as Assistive Technology, so a subscription platform is a natural fit.
Assistive Technology equipment runs up to $5,000 per waiver eligibility span, the twelve-month period the waiver covers.
